The Land Remembers is a three-minute cinematic reflection on loss, resilience, and responsibility. Narrated by renowned Métis artist Christi Belcourt, the film pairs intimate voice-over with simple, powerful imagery – archival footage from across Canada layered with clean, minimal motion graphics and live visuals of an Indigenous youth moving quietly through the landscape of Vancouver Island.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Produced in partnership with WWF-Canada to support the Living Planet Report Canada 2025, The Land Remembers moves through grasslands, forests, freshwater, and coastal zones – not as spectators, but as witnesses. With precise, time-synced statistics and a restrained visual style, the piece never overstates – letting the numbers, the land, and the silence in between speak.
PROJECT SCOPE & DETAILS
Objective: To create a short film that visually amplifies the findings of the Living Planet Report Canada 2025 while weaving Indigenous voices and perspectives into the narrative. The film draws on archival footage from across Canada, live-action visuals, and minimal motion graphics to connect audiences to the urgency of wildlife decline and the resilience of the land.
